সম্প্রতি পুরাতন মালদা, ইংরেজবাজার, হবিবপুর থানা এলাকায় বেশ কিছুদিন ধরে ব্যবসায়ী সহ শিশু অপহরণের ঘটনা ঘটে চলেছে। এই ঘটনার পর টনক নড়েনি পুলিশের। গ্রামবাসীদের বেশিরভাগ অপহরণ হওয়া শিশু ও ব্যবসায়ীদের এখনো উদ্ধার করা সম্ভব হয়নি। এরপরেও হঠাৎ করে হবিবপুর ব্লকের হবিবপুর থানা এলাকার ছাতিয়ানগ্রাম শুক্রবার ইলেকট্রিকসাপ্লাই এর কর্মী পরিচয় দিয়ে ওই এলাকার শিরিস হালদার নামে এক গ্রামবাসীর বাড়িতে ঢুকে ইলেকট্রিকের পাখা ও ওয়েরিং এর তার ঠিক করার কাজ শুরু করে। এরপর পারিশ্রমিক বাবদ 150 টাকা ধার্য করে। সহজ সরল গ্রামবাসীর কাছ থেকে টাকা দাবি করে। এরপরই ওই গ্রামবাসীর কাছে খুচরো না থাকায় তাকে দুশো টাকার নোট দেয়। এরপর ওই ইলেকট্রিক কর্মী জানায় তার কাছে খুচরো নেই তার ছেলের হাতে বাকি টাকা ফেরত দিয়ে দেবে। এই বলে বাড়ি থেকে বের হয় যায়। এরপর বাড়ি থেকে কিছুটা দূর যেতেই শিশুটিকে গাড়িতে করে নিয়ে অপহরণের চেষ্টা করে। গাড়িতে করে কিছুদুর যেতেই শিশুটির চিৎকারে গ্রামবাসীরা গাড়িটিকে আটক করে। ওই কর্মীকে গ্রামবাসীরা উত্তম-মধ্যম গণধোলাই দেয়। এরপরই ওই গাড়ি থেকে ধারালো অস্ত্রও ডাকাতির সরঞ্জাম উদ্ধার হয়। ঘটনার খবর দেওয়া হয় হবিবপুর থানার পুলিশকে। অভিযুক্তদের আটক করে নিয়ে যায়। তবে এই ঘটনা ঘিরে গ্রামে ছড়িয়েছে আতঙ্ক গোটা ঘটনার তদন্ত শুরু করেছে হবিবপুর থানার পুলিশ।
